Shabanu & Haveli

Through the blessing of having a job that allows reading to my hearts content, I have succeeded in finishing the book for literary society, Shabanu [2 months late.. NBD] and it's sequel, Haveli. So good!

I recommend them.

Reviews on the third book, The House of Djinn, say it's a little disappointing. Mmm.. to read or not to read.

Spoiler Alert!

I finally finished Mockingjay, after it's spent a partially read 2 months chillin' in my my house/apartment/car/backpack.

Peeta should have died and Katniss should have had happily ever after with Gale.
What is wrong with the world of literature?? Really?

Who in their right mind would choose the cake decorator/baker over their best friend/SOUL MATE. Peeta is just... Bleh. And Gale is HAWT, and everything a girl [aka- me] could ever ask for.
Well, I mean, if he were real- he probably would be. HA.

Can I just list for you the 2 problems that lie within every book I've ever read?

1- The man I fall in love with NEVER wins.
2- Everybody always dies in the end. Always.

Which is just... miserable. It makes me cry about people that don't even exist. Why don't main characters ever get to live the remainder of their unwritten lives with at least one family member or friend?

GAHHH.

Maybe I should just write my own collection of books- one in which Gale and Captain Jack Elliot combine into one superhumanhearthrob5000 that actually survives the whole series- and wins in the end.

- Order Of The Pheonix -

Remember how I made a goal to read 12 books this summer? Well, I haven't been updating on what I've read so far, so I thought I'd quick post and let everyone know.

A) I did not end up reading Slaughterhouse-Five. I don't remember why.

B) Within the last month or so I've finished:

And I've just started into:

I think that puts me at 9 books so far?

It's my second time reading Harry Potter and I'm loving them so much more than I did the first time. They're so good! Really. When I'm reading them I frequently find myself chuckling at things that are said or done, it's kind of embarrassing actually. But they're funny! Especially once you're past the first 2 books when you know and love the characters so much.

" ..we are only as strong as we are united,
only as weak as we are divided."

I wish Dumbledore was real. He has so many wonderful things to say! I never caught most of what's said in the books when I was younger and now that I understand it, I appreciate it so much.

I watch the movies all the time and I had truly forgotten how different they are from the books! Man. If you haven't read them.. Get on it. [AHEM.. Kerri] And if you've only read them once, but it was while you were in elementary or jr. high.. Then I recommend you read them again. (:

- Jump Back! -

I've just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and I must admit.. I absolutely loved it. Loved the characters. Loved that it's written as a series of letters. Loved that it reminisces WWII. Loved that I didn't bawl at the end, like I do most other books.

Order of Most Ridiculous Cryfests

#1: After re-reading These Is My Words.
[^For some reason, it was so much sadder the second time.]
#2: After reading These Is My Words, the first time.
#3: After reading The Book Thief.

I don't know why I always end up so emotionally attached to the characters who die at the end. It's not fair, really.

Anyways.. Paige, Mom, and I went to the library yesterday and put our cards to good use, so I have quite the assortment to choose from for my next book.

I'm leaning toward Slaughterhouse-Five.

Why? Because Kevin Bacon mentioned it during his role as hottie, Ren McCormack, in Footloose, which is my ultimate favorite movie.

If you havn't seen it..

Mr. Gurntz : He was trying to teach [that] book.
Mrs. Allyson: Slaughterhouse-Five, isn't that an awful name?
Ren: Yeah it's a classic... Slaughterhouse-five, It's a classic.
Mrs. Allyson : Maybe in another town it's a classic.
Ren: In ANY town.

- The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society -

One of my 2010 New Year's resolutions was to read 1 book /month. And I failed it quicker than I could say the word 'literature'. So, I have a new goal in mind. I am going to read 12 books by the end of summer.

So far I've read:

And now I've started into:

I've enjoyed the task thus far and will keep my readings posted, mostly so I don't forget what I've read. If anyone would like an opinion on a book, or would like to be part of a literary society with me, feel free to say so.
