I Am An Adult!

A month ago I came to the realization that I am an adult and that it's okay for adults to get rid of boxes of notes from Jr. high, along with collections of stickers, ugly things from the DI, posters, Jones bottles, assignments, foreign objects, etc. This led me to destroy clean my room and get rid of loads and loads of CRAP. While doing this I found my poetry book from Ms. Beans creative writing class. (LOVE THAT WOMAN/CLASS/ECT.)

The idea was to follow the format of already existing works but use our own creativity for the verses. Mostly my collection of poetry is just dramatic and embarrassing because I was emo-- yuck-- ha. But NEWAYS, joys:

My Shirt

So striped is my shirt,
Reminds me of a sailor or painter.
It's baggy, all comfortable like.
The blue is a dark blue, hard to
Match with. And the white
Is bright except for the
Few spots on it. Of their origin I know not.
This shirt came from a community of clothes
Somewhere, maybe a closet or a box.

Dear God

Please God, don't rope me into this common routine of life

Where everything is poetry about trees and lost souls
Almost real, but not quite
Big words.
I want to live original, yet simple.
My life as a person, not as a complicated system of bright colors and exploding ideas.

But don't let me conform as much as to say
I don't believe, because I do.
I want to experience...
Enjoy...
Feel...
Like an anonymous wanderer
Let me create something different
Let me walk alone.

- We Will Never Forget -

I've been looking through articles and remembering the unity, humility, terror, sadness, and frustration the events of September 11 brought upon us nearly a decade ago. It's strange it's been so long, for I'm sure each one of us remembers it like it was yesterday.

The terrorist attacks marking that horrific day did not harm anyone I knew, but as an American they will effect me for as long as I live, and as a country they will effect us forever.

Work starts in an hour and I know once the river of chaos sweeps me away, the spirit and love I feel in memory of today will unintentionally depart from me. So as I sit here in silence and calm, my thoughts are immersed in remembrance of those who were effected by the tragedy. 9 years later, my heart still goes out to those who have lost loved ones due to the attacks and/or it's aftermath.

I love this country and I am both humbled by and thankful for those who have given up all they have to protect it.

Please take time today to remember those affected by 9/11 and to remember who we are as people and who we are as a country. Take the time to say the pledge of allegiance and thank our Heavenly Father for the blessings of freedom which we have had our whole lives.

- Frank -

There are so many times that I've wanted my camera and not had it near. A few times being the Mates of State concert and the Modest Mouse concert, but never more did I wish I had my camera handy than when I walked into my grandparents house on Monday to see grandpa lolling around the kitchen with only 1 boot on. I guess he had been about to go water the garden when I walked in and there wasn't enough reason to put the other boot on before greeting me.

I'd gone over to see if I could make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which is something I had never done before but I was in the area working so I decided I'd give it a try.

Within moments of asking if I could make a sandwich, grandpa had pulled out two pieces of home made bread from the freezer, apricot jam, elderberry jam, black raspberry jam, lemonade, and milk from the fridge, butter from the cupboard, and pointed to the already open peanut butter on the counter. All while wearing 1 boot.

I decided on black raspberry jam, and milk to go along with my peanut butter bread. The milk, which had expired a few days prior to my visit, made me want to cringe upon my first sip but I didn't want to cause a fit, so I put my cup down, pretended I didn't just drink rotten milk and began to eat my sandwich. Grandpa talked to me about the surface area of salt and ice while making home made ice cream until I had 2 bites left, then he went to the back hall to finish putting on his shoes and headed off to the backyard.

Guess what happened next.

Yup, poured my glass of milk down the drain, emptied the last drops from the gallon jug, rinsed it out, put it on the counter, and filled my cup with lemonade. Mmm.. So much better.

A few minutes later, grandpa was back and out to the garden we went. We speed walked past the sprinkler and over to the berry bushes. Apparently, grandma and grandpa had gone to St. George for the weekend and when they came back the whole patch was loaded. Together, grandpa and I probably picked and ate 30 berries within only a few minutes.

Before leaving, grandpa gave me a taste of some home made black raspberry ice cream while we talked about school. Well, it all started with me telling him how I wasn't sure what I wanted to study and it kind of turned into this..

When grandpa was younger, boys went on LDS missions when they were 20 years old, so grandpa had 2 years of school at Utah State University done before he left. Those first few years were filled with classes from 4 general areas. [One of the classes he mentioned was Economics. He said he'd hated it and advised me never to take it. (: ] He didn't know what he wanted to go into. Then he got his mission call.

In that time, Grandpa, turning 20 a few years before the start of the Korean War, had to ask and receive federal permission to leave the United States to serve his mission in Norway. Permission was given.

Near the end of his mission, he received a letter from his father that said something like,
"I hope you make it all the way home safely." Apparently notices were being sent home to his family in Utah about his lack of response to any of their requests concerning .. the draft, I think? Something like that, and people were upset.

When grandpa was on his way home, he rode a train from ? [New York, maybe] to Chicago. There were officers policing the trains and one of them grabbed him and said "Are you the one we're looking for!!!" and grandpa was so scared because he thought "how could they be looking for me here?" but then the officer said "Nope, not him." and moved on.

When grandpa arrived home he was supposed to get drafted but he asked his draft date to be postponed so he could help his father finish with the cattle early that fall. He was supposed to leave in October but his request was granted so he was going to leave in November and.. I don't remember what happened after that..

But then, because he had lived in Europe and studied Germany, they called him to be part of Intelligence instead of having him go over seas. They chose between sending him over to fight and sending a professional stenographer over and guess what! They sent the professional stenographer over and kept grandpa, put him through 5 months of stenography training, and turned him into their stenographer. What a blessing! No way would that happen without the help of Heavenly Father.

Anyways, he fulfilled his two years of duty and returned, finally, to Utah State University. Where he decided to go into Chemistry. Later, becoming a chemist for the army, testing warfare gases and chemicals.

Whoa! There's my attempted recap. That last sentence was told to me by my mother. Some of my facts might be a little jumbled up, but I tried my best to remember all that he told me.

When my ice cream was done, I washed my dish, thanked grandpa for everything, and headed out.

I love my grandpa. He's so kind. There is nothing warmer than a prayer or welcoming word given by him. He sings in the morning and hums the whole day through. He's smart. He's productive, hard working, even before the sun's up. He's careful and caring. He remembers when I was little and loved his berry patches, weaving in and out carefully without getting a scratch. Because of that, he always saves me a bottle of black raspberry jelly whenever it is made. He slurps milk off the table, teaching us not to waste. He's loving, selfless, always giving. Ice cream. Cider. Apples. Corn. Peaches. Berries. Grapes. He's humble. He stops mid boot application to greet me, and doesn't put the other boot on until I'm well taken care of. He would probably treat a stranger the same way. He's a wonderful man.

- Ever Unproductive -

I get depressed thinking about the adventures of last years 4th of July weekend, and how this summer I've been so ever-unproductive.

I was supposed to be doing a job down in SLC today- but they ended up filling my spot. So.. I'm just idly wasting away..

- May 27 -

I think today might be most originally significant day of the year.I say originally because- it's a day that has real meaning to only a few.

Today is a happy day, because it's my
[beautiful, wonderful, fun, loving, selfless, hard working]
mother's birthday.

Happy Birthday, Mommy!

Thanks for still letting me sit on your lap even though I'm almost 20. It really means a lot. (: I love you [and hope you enjoy the chocolate covered strawberries I secretly made you and hid in the garage fridge]!

And today is a sad day, because it's the anniversary of Jake Pratt's death [May 27, 2005]. 5 years ago tonight I showed my little sister our 9th grade panorama, telling her about everyone from left to right. Upon reaching the far right side of it, I pointed to Jake and said "I'm gonna marry that kid." The next morning, Mary Schacht called me and told me about the car wreck. I thought she was joking.
:( Dear Jake, you're missed.

It's also the day Levi left on his mission, and a year from today- he will return home. Which brings mixed emotions all the way around- Sad he's gone, happy he went on an LDS mission, nervous for when he comes home. All those. Ha.

Happy Halfway.. Day, Elder Ball!!

- Homesick For Logan -

Because I'm so lonely and bored living at home without my bestie friends.. I decided to spend part of my evening looking up information about the Berlin Wall. I should have already known all about it, but I didn't- probably due to the fact that everything I learned in jr. high and high school went in one ear and out the other- so I found the whole thing interesting.

While searching, I found a political article I liked [no doubt I'm the only one who will like it since I'm the only college student left in the universe who doesn't worship our government]. But, feel free to read it all the same.

My family has adopted 8[-ish] chicks, 2 rabbits, and a cat since I lived at home last. I've always hated cats but for some reason I've become strangely fond of this one. Probably because she looks like a bobcat and loves me more than Goose does. [Side note: Goose doesn't like me because I can't help but completely smother him every time he's near- He's just so adorable!] She showed up on our porch a month ago or so and hasn't left since so we've claimed her as ours and I've given her the name of 'Cat' [just because I love Breakfast at Tiffany's].

I might just be rambling because it's real late now but this happened last night and I want to type it down:

At 9:00 p.m. we had to clean the church [basically the worst job ever] and Cat, being the weird thing it is, followed at our heals the whole way there. We left her outside of the church- for obvious reasons- and a half hour later [while my sister and I were having a chalk dust eraser battle] my dad called us over to the relief society room and told us that Cat was in there. I thought he was kidding but it turned out there was a door propped open somewhere and she'd run inside and was wandering the church. Talk about lucky my dad saw her or else there would have been a dead cat in the church come Sunday morning. Ewwww.

Man.. I really really miss my roommies so much :(. And I miss Logan. It's so hard living at home again after being on my own for 2 years, you know what I mean? I wish Fall semester would start 4 months early for me.

P.S. My house lacks wi-fi so sorry posts are sparse until summer ends.

- Huddle Formation -

Props to Emily for turning our boring Saturday night around and coming up with something fun to do.

We stenciled cheap t's and in honor the The Go! Team, who I love very much, I decorated my shirt with a nice "GO!" similar to the one they put on their merch. I'm pretty happy about it.

Remember my short post announcing Cael Jensen's homecoming? Well, he came up to visit the next day and I thought I'd throw up a picture from the event. It's a pretty good one except for everyone in it looks fried. Classic.

We haven't all cuddled together since spring 2008. Talk about a blast from the past, right?

- Teenage Love Rock -

Elder Jensen gets home from his mission today. I can't believe how fast time has flown. Two years? Has it really been two years? From a senior in high school to a sophomore in college.Things have changed so much. I've changed so much.

Welcome home, Cael Roberts Jensen.

I'm so excited to be at Utah State again in a month. SERIOUSLY-I CANNOT WAIT. After doing this summer sales job, I miss even the worst of my USU memories. Ahh! School, please come already!

A few pics of freshman fun:

Oh and.. 1/10 of the LDS doors I knock on have pleasurable people behind them. And it's really fun talking to 9 meanies in order to talk to that 1 likable person but.. it's just burning me out. So I've decided to make the long journey home a little bit early. I'll be heading home on Monday. Bye bye Moses Lake! I hope I never see you again. Ha.

- Don't Tell Me It's Over -

Leish and I went to Viewmont this morning and chatted with Busk and looked through the new yearbook- Whoa, a lot better than ours? I think that might be so. The cover is kinda lame-- but the inside is dang cool for the most part. After, we went and chilled in the commons for a bit since school was out at 12:30 because of spring fling.

I seriously enjoyed seeing everyone that was still there. I saw my little brother, Rossy, then ran into Mc k, Bryson, Ali, Levi Johnson, Maryelle, Anna, Jared, Jessica Jones, Kim and just a bundle of people that I havn't seen for too long. Man, I miss all that. AS LAME AS THAT SOUNDS/IS-- I miss high school, Still, And I'm a sophomore in College.

I've been thinking a lot about that, high school I mean, and I should have juiced it for all it was worth. I feel like I wasted that totally awesome few years of my life. Now, hanging out with Levi and other people I graduated with, I compare my life to theirs and it's like- Hello- Why didn't I live it up before responsibility hit me in the face? Why didn't I talk to people? Why did I have a boyfriend basically my whole senior year? Why didn't I ever try to make friends in my grade? Why did I ever feel awkward or out of place? Everyone in high school was just as insignificant to the world as I was-- Why didn't I realize this? Ha. Regrets about high school... I just got to make sure that I don't feel the same way about college when it's all said and done.

A few updates:

I...
Leave back to Washington on the 31st, so- Sunday.
Got Megan Bell the most perfect birthday present while I was at the store yesterday.
Sent off a letter and a package to Levi already. I can't wait until he replies!!!!

Have spent way too much money while I've been home.
Got glasses.
Got the new Sounds album. YA!
Loved the Keva I drank yesterday. Mm.. Another one please.
Got pooped on by a bird today! on my face :( EW.
